Thompson wins Avid Golfer Classic

GUNTER -- Chris Thompson of Independence, Kan. won the first playoff
hole with a birdie over Andrew Landry of Groves on Friday to win the
Adams Golf Pro Tour's Avid Golfer Classic at the new Bridges Golf Club.
Thompson, 32, a former Nationwide Tour player, earned $15,000 for
his first Adams Series victory after finishing the regulation 72 holes
tied with Landry at 14-under-par. Landry, who led entering the final
round, earned $8,200 for finishing second.
Thompson, who was tied for the lead after Tuesday's first-round 65,
slumped to a 74 on Wednesday, but recovered with a 66 on Thursday to
move back to within three shots of the lead.
Michael Connell of Dallas and Colby Beckstrom of Michigan tied for
third at one stroke back, while Robert Gwin of Montgomery finished
fifth at 12-under-par.
