Girls basketball roundup: Whitesboro locks playoffs
HERALD DEMOCRAT
WHITESBORO — Jill Schuessler had 18 points and four steals as
Whitesboro clinched a playoff spot with a 53-43 District 9-3A victory
over Celina on Friday night.
Rachel Urban finished with 13 points and four assists while Jennifer Williams had 10 points and eight rebounds for Whitesboro.
Kynzie Newman scored 16 points to lead Celina while Amanda Gerths had 13 points.
District 10-3A
Commerce 47, Bonham 38
BONHAM — Raven Massey had 21 points and April Neal added 20 points as
Commerce (22-9, 7-2) defeated Bonham and clinched a playoff spot.
Sydney Millhollon scored 10 points and Cesaley Sparks had nine for
Bonham (13-17, 4-5), which was eliminated from postseason contention
with the loss.
District 11-2A
No. 20 Gunter 45, Whitewright 28
WHITEWRIGHT — Joey Bailey had 20 points, 10 rebounds and three assists as Gunter defeated Whitewright.
Amber Keatts added 12 points and four assists while Carly Smith chipped
in five points, seven rebounds and four steals for Gunter (21-10,
11-2), which hosts Howe on Tuesday.
Skylar Greenwood scored nine points while Haley Langford chipped in eight points for Whitewright (12-17, 3-10).
No. 22 Honey Grove 64, Tom Bean 32
HONEY GROVE — Jessica Brigham had 21 points and eight steals and Deosha
Mackey added 14 points, 14 rebounds and four steals as Honey Grove
defeated Tom Bean.
Regan Rickman chipped in nine points, eight rebounds and six steals and
Chelsea Edwards had nine points, six rebounds and four steals for Honey
Grove (27-1, 12-1).
Sarah Hagan led Tom Bean with 17 points, 11 rebounds and two steals.
Rachel Jones had six points and five rebounds and Raegan Querido
chipped in four points, four rebounds and three steals.
Melissa 45, Howe 27
HOWE — Jacqui Nickell scored 13 points as Melissa defeated Howe.
Morgan Helmberger added 11 points and Keleigh Taylor finished with nine
points for Melissa (20-8, 11-2), which hosts Honey Grove on Tuesday in
a regular-season finale that could lead to a three-way tie atop the
district.
Ashley Davis had 10 points and six rebounds while Paige Potter added nine points for Howe (18-10, 7-6).
Leonard 59, Bells 53
BELLS — Najwa Nwankwo scored 16 points as Leonard held off Bells.
Ashley Booher chipped in 12 points and Kayla Winkler finished with 11 points for Leonard (16-14, 6-7).
Lauren Moore led Bells (10-19, 1-12) with 22 points while Hannah Scoggins added 13 points and Macie Robinson scored 10 points.
District 17-A (I)
Sam Rayburn 27, Celeste 25
IVANHOE — Jaiden Pelton had 12 points and five rebounds as Sam Rayburn held off Celeste.
Sydney Davis had seven points and 12 rebounds while Kylee Abbott handed
out six assists for Sam Rayburn (20-7, 10-1), which closes out the
regular season at Trenton on Tuesday.
District 21-A (II)
Savoy 69, Dodd City 52
DODD CITY — Whitney Cooke had 20 points and five assists as Savoy defeated Dodd City.
Bailey McGehee added 19 points, four assists and three steals, Emily
Cornell chipped in 11 points and four assists and Caitlin McClain
finished with eight points and 10 rebounds for Savoy.
Alex Hilliard led Dodd City with 30 points while Christi Petty had 15 points.
