Whitesboro 61, Krum 32

PONDER -- Matt Miller scored 15 points as Whitesboro opened the Ponder Tournament with a victory over Krum on Thursday.

Austin Cleland added 12 points for the Bearcats while Jordan Gill, Zane Ferguson and Joe Shepard each chipped in seven points.

Whitesboro (2-0) faced Ponder in tournament play late Thursday night and will face Trinity Christian today at 10 a.m. and North Crowley's junior varsity at 2:30 p.m. as tournament action continues.

Merit Bland 53, Ector 45

CAMPBELL -- Brandon Richards scored 15 points and Ector made 12 three-pointers to keep it close in a loss to Merit Bland at the Campbell Tournament on Thursday.

Zakree Thompson added 12 points for Ector (0-2), which faces either Campbell or Blue Ridge at 5 p.m. tonight as tournament action continues.

Non-district

Howe 47, Nocona 41

HOWE -- Alex Torres had 16 points and eight rebounds and Matt Dowlen added 14 points as Howe opened its season with a non-district victory over Nocona on Thursday night.

Kenny Herbert finished with 10 points and 12 rebounds for Howe, which plays at Pottsboro at 7:30 p.m. tonight.

Anna 57, Community 37

NEVADA -- Andre Gibbs had 15 points, seven rebounds and four assists as Anna opened its season with a non-district victory over Community on Thursday night.

Jordan Covey added 14 points, Chris Heath scored 11 points and Andrew Smith finished with 10 points and seven rebounds for Anna, which hosts Prosper at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.
