Denison girls soccer wrapup
The story of the Denison girls soccer season, particularly in district play, was a lack of scoring. The Lady Yellow Jackets finished the season at 3-13-1 overall and 0-9-1 in 17-4A matches.
In that total of 17 contests, Denison scored just 13 goals. Alex Jacobs and April Stange had five goals apiece while Samantha Kuneman added two and Gabriela Hernandez scored once.
The Lady Jackets scored only one goal in district play, which helped them force a shootout against Sherman. But they went scoreless the final eight matches and ended the season without a win in 11 matches.
Next year's team will revolve around Stange, Kuneman and Lynsey Mandujano on offense as Denison loses five seniors to graduation, including Jacobs, Daniella Hernandez and Joanna Ward.
Sophomore keeper Lexie Halk had a very good year despite the record and some of the lop-sided scores. She made dozens of stops to keep games close, particularly in both meetings against Sherman, that most keepers normally don't. The defense will need to count on the continued growth of junior Shelbie Garrison and sophomore Taylor Jones.
