Captains' Corner, Area round edition
Keeping with the theme of notebook nuggets on the blog:
The Yellow Jackets use performance in practice and the previous week's game to determine the captains for the upcoming contest.
For the game against Dallas Conrad, the junor varsity offensive line is the representative from the scout team, sophomore Dalton Perkins got the nod for special teams, senior Jaqwaylin Arps represents the offense and senior Cody Reeves was selected on defense.

First, I try to reserve the chat for special times, like the Battle of the Ax and the opening of the playoffs. There will be future chats down the road as Denison advances.
Second, 20 were added to the roster for the playoffs. From my count there are 90 on the sheet I was given.
Third, in terms of the notebook, that is something we for the first nine games leading up to the Battle of the Ax. There are some constraints due to space in the paper starting with the week of Sherman and thereafter, but it has nothing to do with it being one town or the other. Both basketballs start up, there is the volleyball playoffs and then the other area football playoff teams that we do stories on. The reason I have carried over the captains to the blog is because the captainship is a reward for the previous week's work by the kids.
Fourth, on Cody Reeves' recruitment: I talked to Coach White about that and there are schools showing interest right now. I think it will really pick up for him and Jordan Taylor here in the next week or so because 1. Denison will be one of the teams gaining more attention and 2. College teams will be ending their season and focusing full on recruiting for the time before bowl games.
Fifth, I try to put info in both places. I understand that some people are not hip with computers and want to the what's up on the what's up in the actual paper. But the blog is a place where I can stick things that may not fit in the paper, ie the game recap, which is not confined on the interwebs. But it needs to be said — the media slant is going towards the medium you read this one, hence Live Blogs and Live Chats.

I liked the Jacket Notebook on Friday... in the PAPER. If you have decided to write so much of your material covering the Jackets on the blog, perhaps it might be a good idea to clue the readers of the paper into the plan. Many people I've talked with don't know to check your blog for the information they want. Thanks so much, Jason. You are doing a great job this year!

Thank you, Jason for the great article on Cody Reeves. Do you know if any recruiters are looking at him? I hope so! On another note, Why aren't you still doing the notebook? I really miss it. It seems that now that the Jackets are in the playoffs, there is a lot less coverage on the team. Why? It really is a big deal, certainly to those of us that follow this outstanding team of kids. Are you constrained by the newspaper editors? Is it a case of our local paper being more the Sherman Democrat than the Denison Herald? It would be really nice to see a bit more coverage as long as the YellowJackets keep rolling. See what you can do. Thanks.

No chat this week? : 11/20/2009
Hey Jason, since there's no chat this week... how many players were brought up for the playoffs from the JV? It didn't look like many last week.
