Meet the Enemy -- Frisco Liberty

Unlike last week's opponent, the Yellow Jackets are very familiar with the visitor to Munson Stadium this Friday night. And the scouting report has to date back to last season since it will be the first game in 2010 for Frisco Liberty.

Liberty has made great leaps in just its first few seasons as a varsity program. The Redhawks started slow in their second season a year ago, going 1-3 at the outset. But Liberty finished with a flourish and a 7-6 record, falling a few points short of meeting Denison in the Division II Region II final.

The Redhawks return a lot of their offense but have holes on the defense. Liberty's offense will revolve around the duo of Malcolm Hill and Jay Ajayi, who combined for 268 yards and three touchdowns in the Jackets' 28-20 victory last season down in Frisco. The two are Division I prospects with Ajayi having already committed to Boise State.

Ajayi ran for 1,526 yards and 20 touchdowns while Hill, as a receiver/QB, ran for 1,219 yards and 11 touchdowns as well leading the team with 39 catches for 502 yards and nine scores. He is likely to take over at quarterback for the graduated Brandon Brotzman but the Redhawks have to decide if its better to keep Hill and Ajayi in their familiar roles and go with either Willie Forbes, Zach Smith or Christian Overton running the offense. The Clark brothers, Ryan and Hunter, were all-district players on the offense line and receiver Cameron Brown is another Division I talent.

On defense Liberty loses all-state linebacker Jake Weddle and three of four starters in the secondary (Hill is the only one back and Ajayi is going to start both ways, adding time at safety). The question is how many players will have to go both ways to fill the holes.

And depending on how things play out against the Jackets, comparisons might be made the next two weeks as Liberty faces two of Denison's new districtmates in Greenville and Royse City.
