Meet the Enemy — Mount Pleasant

If realignment sends Denison out of east Texas, Mount Pleasant might end up being a distant memory. But the Tigers seem to be on the same plan that the Yellow Jackets used a few years ago. In 2007 Denison had a sophomore-led varsity squad and finished 4-6 after a season-ending win, just missing out on the playoffs. Then that core burst on to the scene following a realignment cycle.

Mount Pleasant is currently 3-6 with a team full of sophomores and a win against the Jackets would close the season on a positive note and potentially set things up well for the future.

In the present, however, Mount Pleasant is a team dealing with injuries and inexperience. The Tigers are coming off a 14-9 loss to Royse City that eliminated them, and Denison, from the playoffs. Had Mount Pleasant won by at least 14 points, the Jackets could have had a chance at the postseason with a victory over the Tigers.

Injuries have hit the Tigers hard at the quarterback position. In a loss to Sherman to open district play, Mount Pleasant was down to its third quarterback by the second quarter. Cullen Grubbs and Andrew Flanagan have shared snaps the past couple of weeks.

Ed Smith has been an option in the backfield while Kaderius Cannon is one of the main receiving threats.

Anders Garcia and D’Quane Hines are a couple of play-makers on the Mount Pleasant defense.
