Meet the Enemy — Greenville
After a winless 2010, Greenville is just a few weeks away from another season finishing in the same fashion. The Lions are trying to find some traction in order to turn around a program that has lost 18 straight.
Both teams have several similar opponents at this point in the year — Little Elm (41-14), Frisco Liberty (55-3), Dallas Madison (64-7), Sulphur Springs (53-0), Texas High (52-14) and Royse City (35-27) have all beaten Greenville. That combined score is 300-65, compared to the 184-88 against Denison, which includes a win over Madison.
The Lions have showed an ability to make some games interesting and almost knocked off Royse City last week. Greenville led at the half before Royse City had to rally for a 35-27 victory despite a 543-308 advantage in yardage.
Senior quarterback Shay Sellers ran for a pair of touchdowns and had scoring passes to Maury Kelly and Jaquentin Patt. Sellers is one of three Lions to take snaps as the offense tries to find the right fit.
Jeffro Davis leads the team in all receiving categories while Kelly is the second option.
Justin Casselberry is the main running back with Sellers second in ground yardage.
When these teams met last season, Denison pulled away for a 41-24 victory that gave the Jackets their first win of the season. Denison piled up more than 450 total yards and almost had three 100-yard rushers.
