What does a man do who's plowing cotton and looks up to see a fearsome-looking animal big as a collie loping down the row toward him?
In is excitement, B.R. Gaskin of Gunter aimed his tractor at the weird creature and ran over it. Turned out it was a giant anteater from South America, escaped from a neighbor's house.

Leroy Fountain of Sherman earned a trophy in the Fort Worth Soapbox Derby. He won his first two preliminary races but lost out in the third heat. He was competing with 80 others. His racer was sponsored by the Sherman Kiwanis Club.

Tracy Smith won the 50 yard freestyle in the 14-15 year old class a the 15th Annual Denison Swim Meet at Munson Pool.
