Police reports

Twice this weekend, Gunter police arrested drivers they found to be in possession of illegal drugs, reported Police Chief Bryce Kennedy.

Arrest — Oct. 6, SH 289, Officer Kyle Peck. Peck stopped a northbound vehicle on a traffic violation, and then discovered the driver was in possession of a narcotic that field-tested positive to be methamphetamine. The suspect, a Prosper man, age 20, was jailed on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance, on which he posted surety bonds Sunday for his $10,000 bail.

Arrest — Oct. 8, SH 289, Officer Kyle Peck. It was a traffic stop that ended in the arrest of a 30-year-old Denison woman on drug charges. Kennedy reported that Peck stopped the car after seeing it turn from FM 121 onto SH 289 without having signaled the turn. First, Peck found the driver intoxicated and with an open container of alcoholic beverage with her. He asked for and received consent to search the vehicle. Inside it, he found more than 25 Valium, Xanax, and hydrocodone prescription pills hidden inside the center console. He jailed the suspect on charges of possession of controlled substance, driving while intoxicated-open container, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Bail was set at a total of $3,314 in fines and bonds, which she paid later Saturday.

Van Alstyne P.D.

Burglary of business — Oct. 10,10:40 a.m., 300 block N. Henry Hynds, Officer Patrick Turner. The owner of a restaurant on the service road called police after discovering someone had broken in overnight. Lt. Tim Barnes said that the burglar had made forcible entry and taken cash from the register. The case is under investigation.

Drug arrest — Oct. 9, Lt. Tim Barnes reporting. A traffic stop was made on moving violations and, Barnes said, Vessels obtained consent to search the vehicle. The suspect, a 25-year-0ld Van Alstyne man, was found to be in possession of several prescription pills and marijuana. He jailed the suspect on charges of possession of dangerous drugs, possession of controlled substance between 28-200 grams, and possession of marijuana between 2-4 ounces. Bail is set at a total of $12,500, and he remained in jail late Tuesday.

DWI arrest — Oct. 8, 100 U.S. 75, Officer Zack Sweetin. Concerned drivers called in to report a particular car’s driver was driving erratically. Sweetin stopped the vehicle and jailed the driver on a charge of driving while intoxicated with an open container. The suspect, an Allen man, age 21, posted $1,500 bail in surety bonds later Saturday.

Police answered 125 calls for service between Oct. 5 and Oct. 11, including these and six other incidents.

Durant P.D.

Arrest — Oct. 10, 1:10 a.m. 100 block S. 2nd, Officer Blake Conditt. Conditt, on patrol saw a woman loitering, unsteadily, in the parking lot, near the doors of a closed business. He reported that she had a strong odor of alcohol about her. Dispatch ran a check and found an outstanding warrant for the woman’s arrest. He placed her under arrest and as Conditt walked the suspect to the patrol car, she stated she wasn’t going to jail, broke from him and ran. It was a short pursuit. At the jail, he charged the suspect with public intoxication, attempted escape from arrest, and warrant service.

Sherman P.D.

Stolen pickup — Oct. 10, 2400 block S. Crockett, Officer Tim Gann. Between 2:30 a.m. and 7:30 a.m., somebody stole a pickup from the driveway. No description or value given in the report.

Grafitti — Oct. 10, 300 block N. FM 1417, Telephone report. Between midnight Saturday and midnight Sunday, someone spray painted symbols on the complainant’s vehicle, a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Church vandalized — Oct. 10, 1004 S. Gribble, Officer Emerson Paxton. Between 8-10:30 p.m. Tuesday somebody kicked in the back door to a building, leaving a footprint on the door. Nothing was taken.
