Police reports

Grayson County S.O.

Sheriff’s Office narcotics investigators served a search warrant Tuesday that resulted in the arrests of two women and three men, ages 20 to 31, on charges of possession of controlled substance. The details of the search and arrests have not been provided. Bail was set for each suspect on the charge at $5,000, and two of them were also served with outstanding warrants requiring additional bail and/or fines. Each suspect remained incarcerated late Thursday.

Sherman P.D.

Assault — Oct. 25, 1 a.m., 3000 block Northridge, Officer Jeff Jones. A woman called police saying that her boyfriend had pushed her to the pavement during an argument. She received minor cuts to her elbow.

Criminal mischief – Oct. 25, 5:30 a.m., 3000 block Northridge, Officer Jeff Jones. Someone let the air out of the complainant’s tires and police have a suspect.

Criminal mischief —Oct. 26, 1600 block W. Lamar, Officer Tyler Halter. A complainant said someone broke out a window on his trailer, valued at $8. He identified a suspect for police.

Criminal mischief — Oct. 25, 1900 block Creekside, Officer Tyler Halter. A mother reported to police that another woman had thrown her son’s fishing gear into a pond. The report states that the son was fishing when the suspect approached him and asked him to stop. When he did not quit, she picked up his tackle box and threw it into the water. Halter spoke with the suspect, who, the report states, admitted to having thrown the gear into the water. She said she believed it was dangerous for such a small child to be fishing and felt that it was her duty to make him stop. No arrests have been made.

Criminal mischief — Oct. 25, 3500 block N. U.S. 75, Telephone report. Someone threw a large rock through the windshield on a 2007 red 4-door Ford F150 pickup. It happened between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. Saturday.

Criminal mischief — Oct. 25, 1300 block E. Cherry, Officer Leon Goodman. When a complainant went to get her mail, she noticed that her front door wouldn’t close. Then, she saw small pry marks on it. The back door had the same pry marks.

Theft — Oct. 25, 401 E. U.S. 82 (Walmart), Officer Shea Rhoades. A store reported that a man had been in Monday and purchased two electronic items. Later in the day, two females brought the two items into the store for a cash return. Later, the employee discovered both electronic boxes were empty. The items are valued at between $500-$5,000.

Theft — Oct. 25, 1900 block Southridge Lane, Telephone report. A complainant reported that between Oct. 14 and Oct. 20, someone had taken a small velvet bag containing several rings and charms from her dresser drawer.

Bonham P.D.

Burglary — Oct. 19, 1300 block N. 121. Someone broke a window out of an apartment while the tenant was incarcerated in the Bonham city jail. Police took the tenant to the apartment to check for missing items and determined that the burglar had taken a laptop computer. The investigation is ongoing.

Theft arrest — Oct. 20, 200 block E. 11th St., Sgt. Terry Edington. A caller told police that she believed a laptop computer and monitor in her garage were previously stolen, saying she had overheard a conversation among three males. She gave Edington permission to search her garage where he found a black Acer laptop and Westinghouse monitor. He spoke with two of the males, both juveniles, who gave him the location where the computer had been taken. Edington went to that location, on 11th Street, and the resident said the items had been taken from a table in his backyard. Police jailed the adult on a charge of theft between $500-$1,500, and arrested the two juveniles on charges of possession of stolen property.

Criminal mischief — Oct. 21, 700 block E. Sam Rayburn Dr. An office window was broken and two cars damaged on a lot. The vehicles, a Chevrolet Lumina and a Honda Accord, had a broken windshield and a broken a blinker lens.

Burglary — Oct. 22, 600 block E 8th St. Police are investigating the burglary of a residence that appears to have been conducted to obtain copper wiring. The thief or thieves forced their way inside the home, damaging the door frame and latch. Once inside, the complainant advised the thief or thieves had removed the electric cord from the washing machine. While going through the residence with the complainant, police saw a white electrical cord that appeared to have been cut and was hanging from the ceiling of the hot water heater closet. In the next room, they found a large opening in the ceiling where there had been a large attic vent fan. It had been pushed farther into the attic, to leave the intruders room to climb up there. They continued attempts to removing wiring from the attic. The investigation is continuing.

DWI arrest — Oct. 22, 1800 block N. SH 121, Sgt. Carl Graves. A caller reported that another drive had several near-miss accidents in a parking lot and appeared to be intoxicated. Just before Graves’ arrival, the vehicle pulled around a drive-through lane and stopped. That’s where police found the driver, still inside the car with the motor running and the car in gear. The driver’s speech was extremely slurred, thick tongued, and she appeared to drift off to sleep mid-sentence, according to the report.

She failed a series of field-sobriety tests and went to jail on a charge of driving while intoxicated.

Assault arrest — Oct. 25, 1500 block W. Sam Rayburn Dr., Sgt. Terry Edington. A complainant stated that his daughter called him, saying her boyfriend had assaulted her. The victim had gone when the complainant arrived at his daughter’s location. Fannin County S.O. deputies found the victim and took her back to the scene. She told police that her boyfriend got mad, grabbed her by the hair, and pulled her head back. Later, police jailed the suspect on a charge of assault-family violence.

Church burglary and arson — Oct. 26, 400 block Katy St. A complainant told police that when she arrived to clean a church, she saw a door had been damaged and left unlocked. She pushed the door open and noted that it smelled like something had burned. Cabinets were open that were normally left shut, the report continues. She left the building and called for help.

Police went inside the church and saw that a church pew and cushion had been burned and there was a dusty residue around it. They called for the Bonham fire marshal, who determined that dust had come from fire extinguishers that had been discharged to put out the fire, which had been set. The fire extinguisher canisters were found in a ditch outside the building. The investigation is continuing.
