A tragic vehicle-pedestrian collision took the life of Sherman resident Britain Freeman early Sunday morning.
Sherman police Sgt. Chris Mullins reported that Mr. Freeman, 20, was on U.S. Highway 82 about 4 a.m. changing a flat tire on his vehicle. A passing eastbound car struck Mr. Freeman. Sherman EMS took Mr. Freeman to Texoma Medical Center where, Mullins said, he was pronounced dead.
Sherman P.D.'s Critical Accident Investigation Team has been assigned to investigate the fatality. Mullins said it was his understanding that no charges have been filed against the driver.
Mullins added it was also his understanding that Mr. Freeman's vehicle was parked well off the roadway.
Waldo Funeral Home of Sherman has charge of funeral arrangements.

Unfortunately the law does not pertain to stranded motorists, only emergency vehicles. This is a sad tragedy and something should be done. Prayers to the family of the victim.

I am very sorry for the family, and my prayers for Mr. Freeman. What I dont understand is why no charges, the law is to MOVE OVER if someone is on the side with an emergency, the victims car was WELL off the road, was the driver a lawyer or politician, or from the D.A.'s office?

My heart and prayers are with his family. I was told by an employee of the Olive Garden, that the Olive Garden where he worked would be closing for the funeral as well as picking up the bill for his funeral, if this is true that is a very kind and generous thing. RIP MR.FREEMAN

Brit you were such a good person. I don't know what I would have done without having somebody to talk to about stupid boys and everything else in general. I know you're in a much better place but I can't help but be selfish and wish you were still here, smiling that gorgeous smile of yours.

Common Courtesy : 2/8/2010
When you see a vehicle on the side of the road it is always smart to change lanes giving the vehicle on the side of the road room. Isn't it state law that if a police officer has a vehicle pulled over you are to slow down and change lanes if possible. This is something that should not of happened. What if someone was exiting the vehicle and you blow by them at 65 or 70mph. You can knock them down or worse knock them into traffic. Everyone out there, show a little courtesy.

about the accident : 2/8/2010
I know that sometimes not all the information is heard at once but the person who hit the victim was trying to helpful by pulling over to help; which lead to a fatal accident. The driver was just trying to do a good deed and be a good citizen. I'm sorry for the loss of Mr. Freeman, I can't express my sympathy for his family enough. He was so young and it was a horrible accident...
