Austin College building damaged in wreck

A Sherman woman was flown to a Dallas hospital following a single-car crash on Tuesday in which an Austin College residence hall was damaged after the car struck it.
Sherman Police Lt. Bob Fair said that at 8:52 p.m. Tuesday, Austin College police notified Sherman police of the single-car crash near the intersection of Dugan and Hurt streets. The building struck was the Jordan Family Language House, 1205 E. Richards, directly south of the intersection.
Acquanetta Keel of Sherman was driving a 1998 Chrysler Sebring. The investigating officer followed tire tracks from the vehicle eastward until he found it had left the roadway in the 1400 block of East Richards, where the road takes a 90-degree curve. Fair said it appeared that Keel made no attempt to turn at the curve. After leaving the roadway, the Chrysler traveled about 175 yards across the grass before striking the building.
Keel was airlifted to Parkland Hospital in Dallas. Her condition is not known.
Initial damage estimates from Austin College officials set the damage at about $35,000, Fair said. The cause of the crash is still under investigation, and nothing has been ruled out, including medical problems, the lieutenant added.
There were no injuries inside the building.
