Van Alstyne library news
VAN ALSTYNE -- A number of activities have been set for January at the Van Alstyne Library.
Income tax forms and information are now available at the library. Included are booklets for 1040, 1040A, and 1040EZ, as well as many of the commonly-needed forms. Other forms are available online.
On Mondays at 4 p.m., the Blue Bonnet Book Club, for children in second through sixth grades meets to discuss books on the Bluebonnet List. These are books recommended each year by Texas librarians. Children who register for the Bluebonnet program vote each year on which book they think is best. The winning author is honored at the Texas Library Association convention every year.
The library offers free, basic computer classes at 2:30 p.m. every Tuesday and 6 p.m. every Thursday. Classes are paced for beginners and cover introduction to word processing, Internet searching, and how to use e-mail. Call 903-482-5991 to register for the next class.
Preschool Story Time meets at 10:15 a.m. on Wednesdays. DeAnna Willman leads the session which includes fun activities and books.
Family Night at the library will be at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 15. This will be a family game night, so attendees should bring their favorite games to share.
Teen Council meets on Wednesdays at 4 p.m. Any student age 13-18 is welcome to join. Teen Council members help the library by shelving books, recommending books for purchase, writing book reviews, and planning events of interest to teens.
The Wandering Road Book Discussion Club meets at noon on the third Monday of every month. On Jan. 18, the club will be discussing The List by Steve Martini. Attendees are encouraged to bring their lunch.
On the third Thursday of each month, the library presents "Thursday at the Movies." The next session will be at 1:30 p.m. on Jan. 20. Attendees should bring their own drinks, and popcorn is provided.
The Library Board meets on the first Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. The Friends of the Library meet on the second Thursday of every month at 7 p.m.. The Friends group also holds a community breakfast the first Saturday of each month as an on-going fundraiser for the library.
Other events being planned include a library Open House in March and a used book sale in August.
