Does the VA have an end of life policy?

Re: "One world order not in God's plans" (Your views, Herald Democrat, 10-5-09).

The Herald Democrat owes it to it's readership to either validate this man's inflammatory claim that the Veteran's Administration is planning to provide assisted suicide or to print a statement stating that his information is false.

I have been attempting to find a source for anything resembling this "assisted suicide" form and come up with nothing, unless he is talking somehow about a living will, which has been around since the 1970s and allows people to choose to die a natural death rather than tethered to machines in their final hours.

Death and Doctors : 10/20/2009
You will not find a policy anywhere (in writing) that details the way to kill a patient, however, my sister died of cancer. When she was admitted to the hospital (Dallas) it was obvious that she would never leave. She was starving to death. Her doctor took a weekend vacation so when a young doctor working the floor put a tube in her to provide her nutrition, she was extremely grateful. That Monday when her doctor was making his rounds, he had a fit over who had authorized the tube. My other sister was in the room and the doctor made the mistake of saying in front of her, “Don’t you know that you are just prolonging the inevitable?” My other sister told him to leave and not come back. I have heard the same thing from other people that both work in wards with terminally ill or elderly patients. This is not something from a horror movie people. It’s real life.

Rush Limbag : 10/12/2009
Smells of him constantly throwing lies against the wall, see what sticks and let his thoughtless listeners spread it. Rush Limbaugh is hateful and bad for America regardless of your political persuasion.

Thanks, Burl
