Bring your invitations to this party
Way back when, Thomas Payne wrote about the times that try men's souls. I can relate. I have had a bit of a rough patch the last few weeks and I seem to be digging in rather than out.
A week or so ago, I famously left Grayson County Commissioner Johnny Waldrip out of a story about county commissioners.
This week the phone rang and I answered it to find a familiar voice on the other end.
Sherry Chance-Parrish and I went to GCC together years ago. She worked in Dallas for a while as a paralegal and is now a top-notch assistant to a local attorney. She is also involved in the North Texas Legal Association. As a leader in that group, she sometimes sends me information about the group's activities.
Earlier this month, she sent me a note about an activity the group is hosting at the Red River Museum in honor of local judges. I read the notice and we had a few exchanges about it.
Days went on and I kept putting the information on the bottom of my stack of things to do. Last Friday, I reached the bottom of the stack and typed in the information. The story ran Sunday and Chance-Parrish called me Wednesday with what seemed like panic in her voice.
Seems the notice in the paper reflected the information I got and announced the group would be serving wine and food at the event. They were concerned, she said, they would not be able to accommodate the number of people who might turn up to enjoy such an event. I wondered why they were concerned and she explained that the information I received was not intended to be published.
The event, it turns out is only open to members of the Grayson County Bar Association, Grayson County Young Lawyer's Association and the North Texas Legal Association, and their guests.
Members of those groups are encouraged to bring their invitations to the door with them on the night of the event.
Happy birthday Thursday to Reba Adams, and twins, Makaylia and Aniya Galloway, all of Denison; Carl Gattis, Bobby Brock, Dale LaFoy, Dan Niblet, Opel Blount, Raymond Cunningham, Vida Olyne Kauffman, Tracy Ross and Betsy Bearden-Caldwell, all of Sherman; Marcus Henderson of Dallas; Ricky Wilson of Whitesboro.
Happy anniversary Thursday to John and Sue Cox of Denison, 61 years.
