Stories abound about the money that goes unused each year, yet tapping into those resources is often confusing. An upcoming Grayson County College "Figuring Out Financial Aid" information session is designed to help families identify scholarship resources and better understand the application process. The free seminar will be at 6 p.m. Thursday in the GCC Center for Workplace Learning Auditorium.

Current high school students preparing to enter college, students already attending college and parents of college-bound students are the primary target group for this hour-long session. "Our local residents, businesses and organizations have been very generous in providing scholarships to help area students achieve their college goals," said Shelle Cassell, GCC director of marketing and public information.

A number of scholarships are available in the Texoma area specifically designated for Texoma residents. This session will show students where scholarships can be found, tips for winning a scholarship, what scholarship committees often look for, and how to apply for scholarships including the cover letter and essay tips. An overview of the types of available scholarships, common interview questions and a new Web site for federal student aid will also be discussed.
