SHERMAN -- Police arrested a suspect in a robbery which occurred Saturday at Lone Star Lanes.
Buster Lee Nelson, 41, of Sherman, is in Grayson County Jail on one
count of aggravated robbery. He is accused of robbing an acquaintance
at gunpoint later Saturday night.
An affidavit provided by Sherman police Detective Rob Ballew to Grayson
County Justice of the Peace Butch Morgan to obtain an arrest warrant
for Nelson.
According to the warrant, Nelson and the victim, 46, became acquainted Friday night at Lone Star Lanes. When the victim returned to the bar on Saturday night, he saw Nelson inside it again. He pulled some cash out of his pocket in front of Nelson and bought him a drink.
Nelson, according to the warrant, invited him into the parking lot to look at a car. When they were alone in the parking lot, Nelson allegedly drew out a handgun and pointed it at the victim, and then demanded his money. Nelson got the money and left in a dark-colored Cadillac passenger car.
The victim told police he followed Nelson to an apartment complex in the 700 block of FM 1417, but lost sight of him there, the affidavit states.
Sunday police talked with a witness who identified the suspect in a photo line-up as Nelson, the affidavit said. Ballew then learned that Nelson had recently lived in the same apartment complex and drove a black Cadillac passenger car. Ballew also said in the affidavit that he learned that Nelson is currently on parole.
On Monday morning, Sherman Officer Tal Rhew continued the investigation into Nelson's whereabouts and found him at a motel at the corner of FM 1417 and U.S. Highway 75. He arrested Nelson without further incident, Sherman Police Lt. Bob Fair said.
According to Grayson County Sheriff's Office officials, Nelson was "uncooperative with jail staff" on Tuesday. His book-in process remained incomplete at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday because of this. Until book-in is complete, no inmate can begin the process of making bail, which staff said has been set at $100,000 on Nelson.
Texas Department of Criminal Justice spokeswoman Michelle Lyons said that Nelson was sentenced to concurrent 20-year and 15-year sentences for convictions of delivery of a controlled substance, cocaine, in Lamar and Fannin counties. He was sentenced in 1994 and released on mandatory supervision in late 2004. Before that, Lyon said, Nelson had been convicted of a 1991 felony aggravated robbery, also in Fannin County.

What A Stupid Comment! : 3/18/2010
To the last comment stating that "now this mans life is at stake because somebody wanted to get high", what a dumb thing to say! This man's life is at stake because he jacked someone at gunpoint in the parking lot. It doesn't matter what the reason was! If he was selling or buying drugs, all the worse! If he wasn't selling or buying drugs, he STILL robbed them at gunpoint so don't take up for this repeat felon!! If the others there were high as you say, then send them down with him - it suits me to a 'T'!!

well i was there that night at the bowling alley and i think it was a drug deal gone bad. The "VICTIMS" were at the tables passing out because they were so high on opiates, yeah and they got jacked, but thats just my opinion. If you was there then you would of seen what me and my friends saw... but what else would you expect to happen in a situation like that... the "victims" were up to no good. and now this mans life is at stake because somebody wanted to get high..

I am sorry I offended one of the sheep! Maybe I should have used the term "government's handouts" instead of "Obama's handouts" although they are one in the same. This wasn't specifically about Obama as you perceive, but, in case you don't keep up (evidently), Obama is pro-everything that has to do with government handouts and entitlement programs. Do not deny it - he doesn't! I don't know about American Bank, but the government, headed up by Mr. Obama, is robbing all of us in case you haven't been paying attention. If you don't understand now, you will soon when you have nothing and/or you pay more in taxes than you bring home. That is, unless you are already on a government program in which case it won't matter to you much. We'll all be therer soon at this rate.

Bones & The Setup Theory : 3/17/2010
To: Bones: Yeah, uh, ok, whatever! I'm sure this was a setup or some sort of conspiracy against this poor 'victim'. I mean, he has such a solid, proven track record as an upstanding citizen that he couldn't possibly do anything stupid like this, right? Look at his past, it's just not in him to do anything stupid. Hahaha!! If anyone is on drugs, it was probably this guy. Maybe in this bad economy his 'sales' were down so he started using them himself! Get real!

He Had No Choice! : 3/17/2010
This is not his fault, he had no choice. It was either this or get a job! What would you expect him to do in such a tough situation?

Model Citizen : 3/17/2010
Wow! Normally when people go to prison for selling drugs and armed robbery, if they are released early they learn their lesson and come out model citizens.....what happened here? Maybe he is just another poor victim of our racially-biased system!

No Shocker Here : 3/17/2010
Hmmm. 15 & 20 year sentences for cocaine, aggravated robbery, did 10 years in the big house, gets out and robs a guy at gunpoint at a bowling alley. Uncooperative with authorities. Surprise, surprise! What happened to three strikes? He saw a wad of cash and just din't know what else to do and now the racist po-po are harrasing this fine young man about it. He didn't mean anything by it - he just grew tired of waiting for another one of Obama's handouts for people like himself who "deserve" it! Maybe he needed healfcare and this was the only way he could get it.

fishy - fishy : 3/17/2010
Now I know some may believe this, But I don't. Looks like a sorry set up and Nelson is the victim. Why would you rob somebody in place were everybody knows your name in a town everybody knows you. Don't beat the guy up - don't hit him the back of the head , knock him out - nothing? Then he follow you to some apartments, Ya right. Somebody must be on drugs or problems at home to lie on Nelson. smells fishy
