Growing marijuana for his own use apparently wasn't a legal explanation for a Sadler man, 47, on Tuesday. More than four pounds of marijuana was allegedly found inside  his home on Tuesday morning, and he was jailed on a charge of possession of marijuana between four ounces and five pounds. The suspect posted $2,500 bond on Wednesday.

The Grayson County Sheriff's Office acted on an anonymous tip which said the caller believed there was marijuana growing outside a home on Brook Lane. Narcotics Investigator Errin Luton said several deputies went to the house, knocked on the door, and when they got no answer, walked around to the back of the house to knock on that door.

What they saw was a marijuana plant growing near the back door. The resident arrived while the investigators were at the house.

The resident declined to let the deputies inside to search. The illegal plant in plain sight gave them probable cause, and so, Luton explained, they obtained a search warrant.

The search uncovered about four pounds of marijuana. The resident told said, according to Grayson County Sheriff's Lt. David Hawley, that he was only growing it for himself, and he was experimenting with a less-usual packaging method -- using a Seal-a-Meal which enclosed bundles of marijuana inside a vacuum.

Some of those were in one-pound packages and included buds. There was other marijuana was packaged using the more conventional method -- zipper plastic baggies. Investigators also chopped and seized the fresh marijuana outside, and found marijuana drying in the storm cellar.

Luton said the marijuana was what is commonly called "skunk weed."

Investigators also found a sealer, boxes of heat-seal bags, scales, five handguns including a .44 magnum revolver, several .22-caliber automatics, and a .410-gauge Snake Charmer compact shotgun.

They were all loaded, Hawley added, and there was a supply of ammunition also seized.

Hey now! Some of us Republicans are still personal liberty loving people. I don't smoke weed but if it came to a vote I would vote to legalize. Taking the man's guns is the real criminal offense in my opinion. If I get picked on the jury = Not Guilty.

A Marijuana bust, why did they seize the guns and ammo????????? Do the Grayson County Sheriff's office not have enough to do? I could think of plenty of things that would better serve our community than messing with a small time marijuana grower. REAL DRUG DEALERS, CHILD MOLESTORS, SEX OFFENDERS.

Why not grow it, package it, tax the hell out of it and sell it like booze? Killer weed. I have guns too, the guns are not AK 47's.
I do believe the whole incident is over played, especially by the press.

Jury Duty = Legalization : 11/21/2009
Stop whinning about this poor man getting busted. If you really want to legalize pot you MUST (1) get a voter's registration card, which will allow you to (2) sit on a jury in the Grayson County Court. Once you're on the jury you can find him INNOCENT. When County Court starts losing cases against users, arrests and prosecutions will decline markedly. That's what happened in Breckinridge, Colorado, where today up to one ounce is now legal for citizens to own. Pharmacudical giants like Phizer and Lilly want to keep marijuana on the Class I registered drug schedule (same category as heroin and crystal meth) not because its dangerous, but because it's an unregulated, affective pain reducer and appetite stimulator for cancer patients. (Which they can't make a buck on.) An added benefit of having a voter's registration card is that you'll be able to vote out Republican knotheads who LOVE locking up potheads and people like you. Get registered and vote. Wise up or shut up.

It's The Law : 11/21/2009
Hey, we have laws on the books. Officers are required to enforce those laws. If you don't follow the law and get caught you get arrested. Sorry. If you don't like it work to change the law.

Up In Smoke

I AGREE!! LEGALIZE!! : 11/20/2009
When I was 25, I was jumped by a man from behind leaving me with a compression fractured vertebrae. I was a single mom of 3 very young children. The accident caused me severe pain daily. My orthopedic surgeon said I had a back of an 80 year old woman with osteoperosis. The docter's prescribed me little tiny red pills (can't remember name) for the pain. They made it to where I needed physical help to make it from the couch to the bathroom. You can't possibly raise 3 small children & work 3 jobs under the influence of goverment drugs. I'm the type of person that even a codeine would knock me out. One day a co-worker knew of my situaution and the pain I was ALWAYS in and offered me a bag of weed to help. I admit I tried it as a teenager but hadn't touched it since. Bottomline is I tried it and still use it to this day. It doesn't freak me out, cause me to go crazy or anything like what some people want you to believe it does! Matter a fact I'm a bartender and alcohol can do much worse things to me than weed even could no matter how much I'd smoke. Ive been in the bar business for almost 20 years now and Ive seen so much bad come from the abuse from alcohol, the effects of prolonged alcohol abuse and why that is legal and weed isn't just blows me away. I still use it for the pain everyday and I GUARANTEE if you ever met me you'd never know I was a pot smoker by looking at me!!

Happier without the pain!!

Weed is an herb not drugs.Leave the man alone he has not hurt anyone.I'd smoke it if I could find it.

Stolen????? : 11/20/2009
Please!!!!! That is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard!!! This man is not a theif!!! Those guns are not stolen. I've known him since I was a kid and consider him family. He is one of the most genuine, kind man I've ever known. I also grew up in Gordonville and I can tell you one thing, he is always the first one to jump and help ANYONE. Leave him alone!

Legalize it!!! : 11/19/2009
This man is not a dope dealer and never has been! The so called plant was about 4 inches high, you cannot call that a plant of any kind. He is a good man to his neighbors, family, friends and community. He was just growing for his own use and does not bother anyone. I bet the law enforcement that severed him has drunk in the past few weeks and was higher that you can ever get from smoking pot. God put it on this earth it is not a narcotic!!! He has helped so many people in his life that you cannot count them all. Does he want an award? No he does not!!! He just wants to live a good life and enjoy what he has left. Grayson County has lots more crimes going on that are much worse than this man growing a few plants. I hope is lawyer gets him off scotts free!!!! This man helped me out when I lost my job and was trying to feed a family of three. Yes it was hard work but at least he helped me put food on the table and keep our roof over our heads. Just like someone stated, “We all have skeletons in the closet and I would bet that 80% of you on here downing him have or still do smoke pot. Who on this blog does not own a gun?? And if you do, is it loaded? Should be!!! The cops may try to take it away from you!!
You hang in there and you know who I am and I will do anything to help you get through this. You have a lot of friends and they will think no less of you for this. Hell I admire you. When they make it legal the ones that busted you will be first in line to buy some.

Wondering : 11/19/2009
I do not condone drug use. Book him. However, I do question why law enforcment seems compeled to take photographs of guns. Acording to the story, the guns are not a known violation and they are still checking to see if they are stolen. Why photograph a revolver, a rat/snake gun and a few others. Seems like propaganda. Focus on the crime.

Waste of jail space. It's a freaking weed and if he wants it for personal use or to share with friends, then so be it. The only reason why it's illegal is because the powers that be don't get their piece of the pie and I am sick of it! LEGALIZE A WEED PLEASE!
