Young at Art junior division winners
Winners in the junior division of the Young at Art competition were honored Saturday during an awards presentation at Chase Bank. Welcoming the large crowd was Mary Margaret McGowan, chairwoman of the annual show, hosted by Denison Performing Arts.
This year's competition was the largest ever, according to McGowan. Total entries totaled more than 1,300 and were judged by Dr. Ira Lee White. Sponsoring the large show was the Oliver Dewey Mayor Foundation.
Saturday's awards were for Denison students in pre-kindergarten through fifth grades. Aiding McGowan in handing out the awards was Denison City Councilman Jim McClure.
Receiving the Chase' Choice award was James Underfusser. Presenting the award was Barbara Yeley of the bank.
Yeley accepted a certificate of appreciation from the DPA for the Chase Bank's continuing support of the show. The bank, each year, has turned over its entire lobby area to be used as a display area for all the entries and also opens its doors to both awards presentations for the students.
Named as this year's Best of Show in the junior division was a textile mobile created by Jessica Haney. She is a fourth grader from Hyde Park Elementary School.
