Camelot Closes Sherman Community Players season

On June 5, the Sherman Community Players will open its final show of the 2008-2009 Season with the musical "Camelot."

This well-known musical comedy is a rich, romantic re-telling of the famed Arthurian legend. It celebrates the days of chivalry and the famed Round Table with jousting knights, lovely ladies, magicians and forest spirits. It is a creative blend of music, comedy, drama and romance. The story follows the fabled King Arthur from his shy first meeting with his future bride, Guenevere, through his brotherly relationship with the egotistical Lancelot, ultimately ending in the heartbreaking love triangle between the three.

Singers, actors and musicians have been rehearsing for five weeks to bring the music of composers Lerner and Lowe to life. Songs from the show include How To Handle A Woman, Camelot, What Do The Simple Folk Do?, If Ever I Would Leave You and many more.

Volunteers have been working for more than a month, building and painting the magical castle, sewing the jeweled costumes and creating the lighting that makes the mystical world of Camelot come to life.

Camelot will run from June 5 through June 18 with performances on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. Performances are held in the Finley Theatre at 500 N. Elm in Sherman.

Tickets are priced from $7 to $16. For reservations, call the box office at 903-892-8818.

There will be a preview performance the evening of June 4. The tickets for this performance will be $5 and can be purchased at the door.
