Why not Presidents Day?
I read recently in the Herald Democrat that the Sherman Independent School District voted and approved a Presidents Day holiday for our school district. How sad and unpatriotic that this was even up for a vote.
As new residents of Sherman, we were insulted that this day was not observed last year. I'm sure you'd be hard pressed to find school districts that don't honor this holiday. As a grammar school student we had off for both Washington and Lincoln's birthdays until the three-day weekend was put into place; a tradition to uphold our nation's highest office that has been part of our history for decades.
I'm glad SISD approved the day; amazed, however, that it was even up for discussion.
