For the first time in more than 20 years ...
There were no obituaries or death notices in the Monday, Feb. 15 edition of the Herald Democrat, and that is a significant accomplishment.
In August 2010 I will begin my 19th year in newspapers, and I've worked at five newspapers and that has never happened before in my career.
At the Herald Democrat, it's been more than 20 years since an edition of the paper was printed with no obituaries or death notices in it.
So no, your eyes aren't playing tricks on you, and no, we didn't leave out the obituaries.
Obituaries are always one of the most read parts of the newspaper, and online it is no different, that's why this not having obits must have been a big of a shock to our readers as it was to us in the newsroom.

That is hard to beleive. I know somebody's wife around here has snuffed her husband because of no Valetine Card or Candy. Wow!!! Way to go TexomaLand, Keep the Grim Reaper in the rear view mirror.
