Sharing is caring, unless it's a stadium

When the Munson Stadium task force proposed the idea of Denison and Sherman sharing a stadium to the DISD School Board this past week, I have to assume it did so out of simple courtesy.

Lions do not lay down with lambs. The McCoys didn't share a swimming hole with the Hatfields. So how could one stadium for two neighboring rivals, with a history more than a century old, make any sense?

The idea of a shared stadium has been around for decades. From my understanding, there is more support for it these days than in the past. It certainly seems like a viable option for two facilities nearing their life expectancies.

But in order to get the money -- something DISD superintendent Dr. Henry Scott is not available from either district -- for such a project, both cities would have to vote on it. And something tells me that enough Bearcat backers and Jacket supporters wouldn't bury the hatchet, let alone an Ax, over this issue.

There are some who point to other parts of the state where teams share stadiums. Almost every one of those instances, however, involves a single school district and that makes sense. A town like Denton or Wichita Falls is better off saving money and building one stadium instead of three.

The only one place I can think of off the top of my head where more than one school district/town shares a stadium is Grande Communications Stadium out in Midland. I'd imagine that any other one-school town has its own facility. And it looks that Sherman and Denison are destined to stay that way as well.

I would be all for a joint stadium if all get to use. What about including Austin College into your pool of persons to share the time as well as some of the financial burden. Most college games are on Saturdays and shouldn't interfere with our High school games.

Egos. It seems like Denison and Sherman has too much ego to care about what is best. I have lived here for over 45 yrs so i do have some clue. Perhaps when all the powers that be die off or retire maybe something will happen.

Let the ego go

I think it would be a great idea and it is time for people to realize this a new stadium would mean money to both Sherman and Denison. I think people would be surprised if they did vote on it how close it would be. I am from Wichita Falls and I don't understand why they can not come together for a new stadium I know the rivarly but Rider and Old High also have a very big rivarly and they play at the same stadium. And believe me they do not like one another. The Super of DISD said that it would take 10 million to build the stadium so why would you waste 2 to 3 million on repairs?????? Doesn't make sense. You have to look outside of the box to get the real picture. Think of all the pre games you could have and all the playoff games, all the soccor games, concerts and so on and so on and I don't think it would take ten years to pay it off. About the 10 million there are ways to cut costs. But I know I am just talking to the wind because I know SISD and DISD will come up with some more excuses why not to build the stadium.

The time is now!!!!!
