Rock, Chalk Jackets
A trio of Yellow Jackets headed to the Super Jayhawk Camp at the University of Kansas a few weekends back and all came away with strong outings.
Rising seniors Jimmay Mundine, Cody Reeves and Jordan Taylor were part of the 200 athletes from 13 states to participate under the watchful eye of Mark Mangino and staff.
Mundine, a defensive end, left with an enhanced view of the program after receiving his first scholarship offer, although Kansas likes him at the linebacker position. SMU, Oklahoma State, SMU and Baylor are also showing some interest and he plans on visiting Oklahoma State and Baylor.
Reeves, a receiver, ran a blistering 4.45 40-yard dash -- fastest at the position -- to gain major attention from the coaches in attendance. He began the day working out with the fifth group of wideouts and by the end of the offensive session was with the first unit. Then he was placed on defense to see his ability there. I think Reeves has been overlooked so far in the process, especially with so many high-profile classmates and the lack of eye-popping numbers with Denison being so run-oriented last season, and a performance like this will shoot him up the lists of a lot of schools.
Taylor, a quarterback, faced a similar situation. He began with the fifth group but worked his way alongside three other signal-callers in the first group. He currently holds scholarship offers from Rice and Northwestern. I was kind of surprised that Taylor was working with the quarterbacks since he is viewed as an athlete first -- most likely as a receiver in college. But an effort like the one he showed at KU might help him overcome the lack of overwhelming numbers, due partly to missing a month with a broken collarbone, and the fact that he has essentially only one full season -- 10 career games -- as a starting varsity QB under his belt.
And although he was at Oklahoma's camp this month, I'd be remiss to leave out Jaqwaylin Arps' recent effort. Even though he has verbally committed to Texas Tech, the defensive lineman is still getting exposure. He was listed by SoonerScoop.com as one of the top 11 defenders, and fourth defensive linemen, among the prospects participating.

There is no doubt the football coaches dedicate themselves to the team. Denison has some exceptional athletes not only in football but in all other sports as well. It's a shame that their dedication didn't extend to the baseball program. I hope that the new baseball coach will be that dedicated. It is a shame that the coach's last year are even on the coaching staff this year. Such a pitiful performance should not go unpunished.

There is no doubt that all of these student athletes deserve the recognition and exposure they are getting. All of them faught thru a tough sophmore campaign and after a taste of the play-offs these Jackets looked poised to make a run!! all of the ney sayers can say "Well they can't throw the ball", well those sayers need to come to 7 on 7 every Monday night. These Jackets are the new and improved w/ an airial attack that will surprise everyone. These coaches are not dumb enough to let an opportunity like this come and go without giving the kids every opportunity to have success. Unlike our neighbors to the south our coaching staff has the respect of every kid, from 7th-12th grade and they all understand what is expected to be a player on this yellow jacket team. Coach White and staff have done a marvelous job of allowing the younger kids at the middle school level to feel apart of what could be a magical season. It all goes back to the kids and the trust they have for this coaching staff. They are fair but firm and there is not one person held higher than the program itself. That is is why these kids have success and that is why the Denison Program is held to such a high standard. Thanks coach white, coaching staff, and all of you student athletes!!! It's great to be a Yellow Jacket!!!!

I have coached all of the athletes mentioned in this article, and they all deserve the success they are experiencing, but I can say with certainty that none deserve it more than Cody. He's a fantastic kid who has fought his tail off to make the best of what could have been a terrible situation.
