A few notes on the Yellow Jackets, both past and present:

* Denison alum Eric McDade was named the head boys basketball coach at Duncanville this week after leading his Mansfield Timberview team to the start tournament this past season. McDade was the apple of many Jacket fans' eyes as a potential replacement for the departing Scott Curran before Denison hired Jody Bass.

McDade gets perhaps the best basketball job in the state -- the traditional powerhouse had no fewer than six Division I prospects on the roster this past season.

* It's always something with these national rankings and junior running back D.J. Jones. When Rivals.com ranked players by position, Jones was listed as the 16th best running back in the country for the Class of 2010. TheOldCoach.com, Rivals' Texas-based site, finished off its list of the top 100 players in the state and put Jones as the 22nd best player in Texas and the second-best running back, behind only Temple's Lache Seastrunk, who is listed as the second-best prospect in the state.

* The school year is coming to an end and the Denison athletic department will be holding several camps during the month of June. Here is the info on some of them:

Yellow Jacket Football Camp

What: A football camp for all students entering grades 4-8 at Denison High School Athletic Facility under instruction from Denison coaching staff.

When: 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on June 8-11.

Cost: $50 includes camp t-shirt. A $30 non-refundable deposit can be sent to hold a child's spot.

Denison Boys Basketball Camp

When: June 8-10 for K-4th grade and June 15-17 for 5th-8th grade from 8:30 a.m.-noon.

Where: Denison High School Gym.

Cost: 50 per camper.
