Matt Poe not a candidate for SHS job
Pottsboro head football coach Matt Poe says he is not in the running
for the vacant head football coach/athletic director job at Sherman
High School.
Poe said Tuesday he will not apply for the open position, saying it's
very late in the off-season and that he enjoys coaching at Pottsboro.
Poe's name came up in early discussion over who might be a likely
candidate to replace Drew Young at SHS. Poe was an assistant coach for
a decade in Sherman on the staffs of both Ronnie Tipps and Young,
serving as Young's offensive coordinator before accepting the Pottsboro
head coaching job in 2006.
Pottsboro, which had lost 29 games in a row (not counting a forfeit
win) at the Class 3A level before Poe took over, shattered school
records last season with a 13-2 campaign and a trip to the 2A Division
II state semifinals. But the Cardinals graduated all but one starter
off that team, leading to speculation Poe might take an opportunity to
move elsewhere.

Us parents are glad Coach Poe is staying with our program and our boys. All the coaches are very positive. We lost a good group of young men. But, do not count out the ones coming up. They are big, fast, and dedicated to all their coaches and team. DO NOT count us out "WE WILL WIN IN 2010"!
