No Thursday night lights for varsity Bearcats

Good news for Sherman Bearcat fans: Looks like there won't be any odd-day scheduling this fall for the second year in a row. All varsity football games are scheduled for Friday nights, according to the school.

Last year, because of the shared-stadium situation within the McKinney and Frisco school districts, Denison was forced to play a Thursday night District 9-4A game against McKinney High at Ron Poe Stadium.

Two years ago, when Sherman and Denison were paired with Denton ISD schools, the Bearcats played a Saturday game and the Yellow Jackets played a Thursday night contest, both against Denton Ryan. Denison played at Denton Guyer in a Saturday afternoon game and at Denton High on a Thursday night in 2006. Like with McKinney, three schools share one stadium in Denton.

The Denison 2009 schedule has not been officially released yet, but since the Jackets host both McKinney schools at Munson Stadium, the odds favor the Jackets also playing all their 9-4A games on Fridays. Denison has four trips to Frisco on the agenda, but the Frisco ISD has two stadiums (FISD Memorial and Pizza Hut Park), which simplifies scheduling.

Here's the 2009 Sherman varsity football schedule:

Aug. 28    Lake Dallas    Away
Sept. 4    Rockwall-Heath    Home
Sept. 11    Little Elm    Away
Sept. 18    OPEN
Sept. 25    Frisco*    (HC)
Oct. 2    McK. North*    Away
Oct. 9    Fr. Centennial*    Home
Oct. 16    Frisco Wakeland*    Home
Oct. 23    Frisco Liberty*    Away
Oct. 30    McKinney*    Home
Nov. 6    Denison*    Away

Wishful thinking : 5/15/2009
It would be better if he didn't concern himself with football either. No one has the guts or the care to make a change. It is not going to be pretty next year, especially week 10 against Denison. He probably doesn't even realize it because he doesn't attend many offseason workouts. Rumor has it that they don't do any work in offseason anyway. I will try not to say I told you so after the season next year.

Time for a change at SHS : 5/14/2009
Maybe the school board will wise up & get rid of Drew Young & get someone in there that can create a winning team. Drew is a terrible football coach & doesn't have a clue of how to be an athletic director. He doesn't concern himself with any other athletic programs at SHS, except football. He needs to do everyone a favor & move on down the road.
