Path to title got easier for S&S
Going into the softball playoffs, I thought there were only two teams that could derail the freight train known as the undefeated S&S softball team -- Brock and defending state champion East Bernard.
After the UIL's mandated one-game series only in the region quarterfinals, the number of teams left off that list is down to one.
The defending champs and their standout pitcher, Courtney Repka -- who can only be aptly described as having the physical traits of 6-foot-4 Joey Bailey of Gunter with the ability of S&S' own Angela White, were knocked out by Poth on Tuesday.
Combined with Big Sandy Harmony's loss on the same night, half of last year's state tournament didn't make it to the final 16 teams. S&S is still going strong as is the state runner-up and team which beat the Lady Rams in the semifinals, Coahoma.
And while a re-match with Brock is waiting, the road to a perfect season and state title got a little easier if the Lady Rams end up in Austin.
