North Texas Chorale seeks new members

All area singers are encouraged to join the North Texas Concert Chorale as it resumes rehearsals for the fall season, which begins Aug. 20.

The chorale is a member organization of the Sherman Council for the Arts and Humanities Inc. Rehearsals are held weekly from 7 -9 p.m. on Thursdays at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 322 W. Pecan, in Sherman. Membership in the chorale is open to adult members of the community, college students, and high school students (with a recommendation from a school or church choral director).

The chorale membership comprises individuals from varying backgrounds and professions, and performs vocal music of many styles, ranging from classical, popular and patriotic, to spirituals and Broadway hits. This season through the sponsorship of the Thelma Braun Foundation, we will be performing the A. Vivaldi "Gloria" with orchestra, and select members of area choirs.

Interim director for the fall 2009 semester is Jeremy Blackwood. In addition to serving as director of NTCC, Blackwood is the director of music and worship at the First United Methodist Church in Sherman. Previously, he was the organist/director of music for Trinity United Methodist Church in Denton, and organist/director of music at First United Methodist Church in Harrisburg, Ark. He most recently served as chairman for the choral sub-committee of music interest areas for the national organization of the Fellowship of United Methodist Music and Worship Arts.

Singers interested in joining the chorale should contact Blackwood at 870-578-7267 to schedule a voice placement evaluation. For more information about the chorale, visit www.ntccsings.org.
