More Denison all-staters
Due to realignment, the announcement of the Texas Sports Writers All-State football teams were pushed back a day, putting the release of the 4A team on a Friday, meaning there would be a two-day gap before it is in the paper.
But your ever-trusty Denison blog is here with the list of Jackets who were selected.
First-team selections -- Jaqwaylin Arps at tackle and D.J. Jones at running back.
Second-team selections -- Arps at defensive tackle, Corbin Boettger at center and Jimmay Mundine at tight end.
Third-team selections -- Aaron Morrison at defensive end.
Honorable mention selections -- Jordan Taylor at quarterback and Cody Reeves at defensive back.
Grumble at your will, Mundine fans. He was beat out by Aledo's tight end for a spot on the first team. On numbers alone it's no contest -- Mundine had 55 catches for 1,037 yards and 16 TDs, Forrest Cook had 35 catches for 438 yards and five touchdowns (in one more game, it should be noted.) As another addendum: there were six tight ends on the ballot. The other five COMBINED had the following offensive numbers -- 105 catches, 1,527 yards and 15 TDs.
Some other notes: Arps was the only player recognized on one of the three teams at more than one position. Jones was a first-teamer for the second straight season while Boettger was on the second team for the second straight year, again finishing behind Rockwall Heath's Austin Woods.
