Denison 2009 football schedule is set

The Denison football schedule for the 2009 season will have the same 10 opponents it did last year, just not in the same order.

Denison head coach Cody White confirmed that the Yellow Jackets have switched their game against Little Elm from Week 3 to Week 0 and will open the season against the Lobos at Munson Stadium.

Denison will then play at Big Spring, host Wichita Falls and have an open week before beginning District 9-4A action against Frisco Liberty.

White wanted to change the schedule after Denison struggled against Big Spring following a scrimmage against Royse City while the Steers already a game under their belts. New Little Elm head coach Donald Stowers also wanted a bye going into district play and was receptive to the switch. Denison will now have just one scrimmage -- on August 21 at Rockwall.

The move also will keep the Jackets a little fresher for a deep playoff run. Without the bye last season, Denison played four months and a week straight instead of mixing in a break.
