Austin College chamber music and jazz concert

The Austin College Department of Music will present "An Evening of Chamber and Jazz" in the annual fall instrumental concert at 7:30 p.m. on Monday in Wynne Chapel on the Austin College campus. The event is free.

The first part of the program will include performances by a woodwind octet and a chamber orchestra. Music will include selections from the 17th and 19th centuries. The groups include Austin College students and faculty.

The second half of the program will be presented by the Greater Texoma Jazz Ensemble, a 20-piece big band, performing traditional and modern works in a variety of styles, including swing, blues, and salsa. The ensemble is comprised of Austin College students, along with students and faculty from other area schools and area adults who wish to continue to perform traditional and modern big band music.

Both groups are under the direction of Ricky Duhaime, Austin College Mosher Professor of Music. He has been a member of the Austin College faculty since 1978 and appears regularly as principal and section member with regional orchestras and ensembles. He also serves as one of the continuing faculty and orchestral principals with the annual Eisenstädter Sommerakademie in Austria.
