Thompson wins Avid Golfer Classic

<p>GUNTER -- Chris Thompson of Independence, Kan. won the first playoff
hole with a birdie over Andrew Landry of Groves on Friday to win the
Adams Golf Pro Tour's Avid Golfer Classic at the new Bridges Golf Club.
</p>

<p>Thompson, 32, a former Nationwide Tour player, earned $15,000 for
his first Adams Series victory after finishing the regulation 72 holes
tied with Landry at 14-under-par. Landry, who led entering the final
round, earned $8,200 for finishing second.
</p>

<p>Thompson, who was tied for the lead after Tuesday's first-round 65,
slumped to a 74 on Wednesday, but recovered with a 66 on Thursday to
move back to within three shots of the lead.
</p>

<p>Michael Connell of Dallas and Colby Beckstrom of Michigan tied for
third at one stroke back, while Robert Gwin of Montgomery finished
fifth at 12-under-par.</p>
